Deon M. Green

U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps 

Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Deon M. Green currently serves as the Senior Army Instructor at Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, LA.  Before retiring from military service with more than 21 years on active duty, her final position was serving as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate for the U.S. Army Surgeon General with U.S. Army Medical Command.  Throughout her career LTC Green has been assigned as a Staff Judge Advocate, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, Command Judge Advocate, Brigade Judge Advocate, Group Judge Advocate, Trial Defense Attorney, Chief of Justice, Trial Defense Operations Officer and Legal Assistance Attorney.  She has served as a member of the U.S. Army XVIII Airborne Corps, 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, Special Operations Command, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Trial Defense Service, 6th Recruiting Command, 5th Army (US Army North), Northern Regional Medical Command and the Medical Research and Material Command. 

 

Lieutenant Colonel Green attended Marian University earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Military Science.  While in college, LTC Green received a scholarship through the U.S. Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the Adjutant General’s Corps in 1994.  Lieutenant Colonel Green was granted an educational delay from her active duty commission to attend law school. She attended Marquette University Law School and was selected to become a member of the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG Corps) after earning her Juris Doctorate in 1997.

 

During the course of her military career, LTC Green has deployed in support of numerous war time and peace keeping missions.  In addition to serving a 15 month tour of duty in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Lieutenant Colonel Green has also deployed to the countries of Haiti, Senegal (Africa) and South Korea.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Green is a graduate of the U.S. Army JAG Corps Basic Course, U.S. Army Combined Services and Staff School (CAS3), U.S. Army Intermediate Level Education (ILE) Course, and the Judge Advocate General’s Graduate course.  In addition to earning a Masters of Legal Letters (LL.M.) in Military Law (with an emphasis in Criminal Law) from The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in conjunction with the University of Virginia School of Law, LTC Green has also earned a LL.M. in Health Law from The University of Maryland School of Law. 

 

Lieutenant Colonel Green is a recipient of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 oak leaf clusters), Iraqi Campaign Ribbon and Korean Service Ribbon.  She is an active volunteer in numerous different communities and a mentor and intends to continue those activities indefinitely.  She considers herself a lifelong public servant and endeavors to encourage those around her to take up a similar mantle. LTC Green, her Mother Valli Green, Father Leon Manning, Father Charles Green, Sister Brenda Briggs and Brother James Manning are eternally grateful for the wonderful life experience serving our nation has provided.

SGM (R) James A. Boone, 

BTW Army Instructor

Sergeant Major (SGM) (Retired) James A. Boone is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida.  He graduated from Gibbs High School in 1968.  Prior to his being drafted into the United States Army in 1970, he worked as a fork lift operator at a major construction company.

SGM Boone was drafted into the United States Army in the fall of 1970 and received his Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  He received his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia where he received the distinction of becoming an Infantryman.  SGM Boone was assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas where he served in various capacities; (Team Leader, Squad Leader).   Upon completion of those duties at Fort Riley, he was assigned to Wiesbaden Germany as an Infantry Squad Leader for Charlie Company 1/16 Infantry  Battalion.  After two years SGM Boone was selected for Drill Sergeant’s School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and he was given the duty to train troops there until 1985.

Upon completion of his duties as a Drill Sergeant, he was assigned First Sergeant (1SG) duties with Charlie Company 3/6th Infantry Battalion.  Later, SGM Boone was assigned duties in the Republic of Korea where he served as a 1SG with Bravo Company 3/5 Infantry Battalion.  Following that assignment, SGM Boone was selected for the Sergeant Major's Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas.  Upon graduation he was assigned duties at Ft. Lewis Washington, working in the G-3 (AIR) for three years. He retired and began JROTC duties as a Senior ROTC Instructor at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia.  Upon retirement form active duty he began working for the Booker T. Washington High School JROTC in 2001 - Present.

 

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 10LC, The Army Commendation Medal with 20LC, the Army achievement Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon for 20 years of honorable service, the Overseas Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.

 

He is married to the former Brenda Chandler, and together they have four children: Tony, James Jr., Brandon, and Breana.

SFC  David L.Cooper, (RET),

BTW Army Instructor

SFC David Cooper was born in Little Rock Ar. He enlisted into the Louisiana Army National Guard in February 1986. He attended Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Knox, KY. Having completed his training SFC Cooper returned home to continue his military career. SFC Cooper was assigned to multiple positions within the 1/156th Armor Battalion from 1986 until 2001. In October 2001 SFC Cooper Transferred to the Louisiana Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention Battalion to complete his military career and in October 2018 SFC Cooper Retired. In Jan 2019 SFC Cooper was hired by Caddo Parish JROTC and BTW High School to fill a position as an Army Instructor. SFC Cooper Graduated from High School at Baptist Christian Academy, in Shreveport, La in May 1986.
